Judith led me to a room I was familiar with, even though I had never seen it from the inside. The X-shaped bed sat in the middle of the room, covered in straps. The walls around it were foggy glass, but I could see to the theater beyond, which was empty. Set on narrow tables under the windows were an array of BDSM equipment, clamps and whipping tools and everything else you could imagine for a punishment session.

I shuddered, and held my arms. “I don’t know about this.”

“Relax.” Judith went to the tables, and began inspecting the items. “You’re the dom for this one.” Judith gave a short jockey whip a swing, and slapped it against her own rump with a nod.

I flinched at the sound. “I’ve never done anything like this before. Not deliberately.”

“It’s not hard,” Judith said. “I always thought you had the personality of dom, Helle. You never let the world give you shit.”

I exhaled. “Well, this place has made me question a lot of my decisions in life. Activities I never would have indulged in became the norm.”

“You should embrace that side of you, Helle,” she smiled. “Being able to go through with whatever you went through just says you were always willing. You just wanted permission first. Or someone to take the decision away from you.”

I narrowed my eyes but didn’t argue it with her. “I can’t believe I’m about to do this with my partner on the force.”

“Easier with a stranger, then?” She got close, swishing a riding crop.

“I guess... maybe?” I asked.

She looked me over, her eyes lingering in places. “Neither of us is quite who we imagined each other to be, isn’t that right? Me a dom. You..?”

“I don’t know what,” I grunted.

She hooked the loop of my zipper and pulled it down an inch. “Maybe you’re still finding that out. Maybe you need to experiment more.”

A long exhale escaped me. “I…”

A shiver ran through my blood, even in the face of all the torments the Painworks had endured, the anguish and humiliation... my goddamn libido was still red hot.

Handsome, but it was marred by his constant, arrogant smirk, over-styled hair, and a gold earring in one lobe. Like some kind of stereotypical Jersey guido.

“Well holy fuckball Christmas,” Judith muttered. “Ricky Roselli, you piece of shit.”
